WaterWay WingTsun (pronounced Wing Chun) is one of three WT schools in Toronto and is an official member of the International WingTsun Association - North American Section. The IWTA, founded by Grandmaster Leung Ting in 1973, is the largest professional martial arts organization in the world with over 4,000 schools in over 60 countries. Grandmaster Leung Ting was the last and ‘closed door’ student of the Great Grandmaster Yip Man.
WingTsun is a traditional yet modern kung fu system designed according to eastern philosophy, scientific principles of movement, and simple, realistic concepts. A WT practitioner’s response to an attack is like a river going to sea. If a boulder blocks it's path, the river elegantly flows around it. Regardless of the barriers presented it will reach it's ultimate destination. By staying relaxed and employing constant forward pressure in our limbs, we reflexively flow into the gaps offered unknowingly by the attacker thereby taking away their chance to regroup and cause further trouble. Balance is restored through efficient, flowing movements and the redirection of incoming force.
The WingTsun grading system consists of 12 student grades followed by 4 Technician levels, 4 Practician (Master) levels and finally the Grandmaster levels. Each level has a globally standardized program that enables the student to construct a solid foundation upon which the more demanding and advanced parts of the system can be built. In addition to forms, reflex training (Chi sao) and free fight training (Lat sao), WT classes also incorporate strength training, technical drills (e.g. footwork, kicks), scenario role-playing and flexibility exercises.
WingTsun is the preferred choice of many elite police special units including the FBI Hostage rescue Team, LA SWAT, GSG9 and NOCS among others. For more information please contact us, introductory classes are complimentary. We are located a few steps away from Jane subway station in Bloor West Village, Toronto.
